Description of White Willow Extract,Salicin

White willow (Salix alba in Latin) is a species of willow native to Europe and western and central Asia. The name derives from the white tone to the undersides of the leaves. The active ingredient in white willow bark is called salicin, the chemical model for the creation of aspirin. White willow bark is the natural choice for the treatment of many of the same conditions as aspirin, because it has fewer side effects and the benefits last longer.

The willow family includes a number of different species of deciduous trees and shrubs native to Europe, Asia, and some parts of North America . Some of the more commonly known are white willow/European willow ( Salix alba ), black willow/pussy willow ( Salix nigra ), crack willow ( Salix fragilis ), purple willow (Salix purpurea ), and weeping willow ( Salix alba ). The willow bark sold in Europe and the United States usually includes a combination of the bark from white, purple, and crack willows.
